INTRODUCTION

Today one day we are involved in a System that has failed the Earth and the people who live in it. Patriarchy, and its last descendant, Capitalism, have taken it upon themselves to exploit Nature and its people in exchange for the benefit of a few, leaving us on the brink of extinction. Pursuing profit without regard for human and natural costs is now outdated thinking, and the fashion industry is not exempt from this behavior.

That is why I want to invite you to be part of the Supra-recycling counterculture, a world that not only teaches you about design and deconstruction, but also about respect, humility and empathy towards all forms of life.

Upcycling or Supra-recycling is a textile recycling technique that rescues disused clothing to give them a new life. Through deconstruction of the body, the Experimental Recycling Workshop seeks to unleash your creativity in the most sustainable way possible and thus give you the tools to be an agent of change in one of the most polluting industries in the world.

ALL of us are creative and ALL of us can re-design the future of our societies. The best? It is that we can have fun breaking the rules of the established.

To continue evolving all together, I now present an updated and more complex version of the experimental recycling workshop. Unlike previous versions, this Workshop now has an exclusive extra class on design, in addition to tasks that help them deepen their garment and a final delivery of their creative process for those who wish to obtain a participation certification.

She is a contributor to the non-profit organization Supra.org.

GOALS OF THE WORKSHOP

1

Instruct them in the basic concepts of design, sustainability and the functioning of the fashion industry vs innovative initiatives that aim for a more circular future.

2

Work on the research and conceptualization of ideas and then lower them to a tangible design. Design with at least two Upcycling methodologies (several examples will be presented at the beginning of the workshop)

3

Devise an experimental design from the deconstruction of disused garments or scraps. Make at least one item of clothing. They can create the garments they want as long as the workshop time lasts.

one

Requirements for the workshop, calm down! It doesn't take many;)

No previous experience is required, but to participate you need a homemade straight sewing machine, internet connection and access to a cell phone or computer (the classes will be via Zoom). In addition, they must have the basic sewing supplies such as: scissors, threads, ripper, measuring tape, fabric chalk or pencil, pins, needles.

two

In addition, they must have garments to recycle. The more options the better, since we will create color palettes and textures with them. It is recommended to do a closet cleaning or get with friends, family, etc. garments that are in disuse.

three

Responsibility. They must do the tasks that are sent to them for the week, since the Upcycling they will learn requires patience and dedication.
